From Tired to Timeless
Modern Landscape Creations recently gave an outdated backyard a complete makeover—transforming it into a modern, low-maintenance outdoor space that’s as stylish as it is functional.
The goal was to breathe new life into the yard by using contemporary materials and finishes while creating a practical space for relaxing and entertaining year-round.
Here’s a look at the standout features of this modern backyard renovation:
- Travertine crazy pave was used in the alfresco area to introduce texture, movement, and a premium finish. Its natural tones complement the home and help ground the entire space, creating an effortless flow from house to yard.
- A new pergola extension was added, complete with a ceiling fan to increase comfort on hot days. This structure provides ample shade and elevates the space with a clean, modern design perfect for outdoor lounging or family meals.
- Travertine tiles were laid in and around the existing pool area, replacing old surfaces to create a fresh, high-end look. These tiles are not only visually striking but also stay cooler underfoot—ideal for summer.
- To improve year-round usability and reduce maintenance, astro turf was installed. This lush, green lawn alternative keeps the space looking immaculate with zero mowing or watering required.
- Privacy screening was installed next to the pool, helping to block unwanted views while adding a sleek architectural feature that blends with the overall modern design.
- Feature lighting was strategically placed throughout the landscape, adding depth, warmth, and visual interest after dark. From highlighting paving textures to illuminating key entertaining areas, the lighting enhances both form and function.
The result is a refined, low-maintenance backyard that perfectly suits the needs of a modern lifestyle. By combining elegant materials with clever design solutions, we’ve created a welcoming space that can be enjoyed day and night, all year round.

Modern Landscape Creations recently completed an award winning, full front and backyard renovation at a stunning modern home, bringing the outdoor space in line with the sleek architecture of the home. The goal was to deliver a streamlined, functional, and visually cohesive landscape that complements the home’s contemporary design and elevates everyday outdoor living. Here’s a look at the standout features of this modern landscape transformation: A dedicated firepit area was created, built with durable composite decking boards for a polished, low-maintenance finish. This space offers a cosy atmosphere for entertaining, complete with seating and a sleek, modern design that ties into the overall aesthetic of the home. An outdoor dining and casual seating area provides everything needed for effortless alfresco entertaining. With integrated appliances, bench space, and room for a large dining setup, this area encourages outdoor living year-round. Privacy screening was incorporated throughout the design, offering a stylish solution for seclusion without compromising airflow or light. These screens enhance the modern look of the landscape while delivering functionality. A motorised pergola was added to provide flexible coverage over the entertaining area. With the ability to adjust at the push of a button, the pergola offers shade during the day and opens to the stars at night—perfect for any weather. Fresh turf installation helped revive the garden space, giving the backyard a lush, vibrant finish. This soft green expanse balances the hardscape elements and creates a welcoming zone for kids and pets to enjoy. A striking dragon tree was planted as a feature piece, adding architectural flair to the garden. This sculptural plant pairs beautifully with the home’s modern lines and lighting. Feature lighting was used throughout to highlight key elements such as the decking, firepit, and plantings. These carefully placed lights not only boost safety and visibility but also transform the space after dark with a soft, ambient glow. The end result is a bold, functional outdoor space that mirrors the elegance of the home itself. From relaxing by the firepit to hosting family meals under the pergola, every corner has been carefully considered to maximise comfort, style, and usability.
